HISTORIC SEASON CONCLUDES FOR ONU IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE NAIA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 17 Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer team bow out of the NAIA National Tournament in the First Round after falling to the Redstorm of Rio Grande 3-1 Thursday night. The Tigers finish the 2022 season with a record of 16-2-3 and winning the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions while also securing an automatic bid to the National Tournament in consecutive years.

Rio Grande built a three-goal lead in the second half. The opening goal was scored in the 58th minute after sustained pressure in ONU's defensive third of the pitch ultimately resulted in the back in the back of the Tigers' net. A penalty kick was awarded in the 76th minute and was converted to double URG's advantage. The Redstorm's final goal was nodded in from a corner kick set piece at the 82:58-mark to put the match out of reach.

Max Jasper scored his 11th goal of the season after getting his head on the end of a set piece from Nick Kilian who recorded his ninth assist of the year. With the goal scored with only three minutes left to play, The Purple and Yellow-Gold could not conjure a comeback to extend proceedings.

ONU saw eight seniors play their final game for the program. With four championships and two NAIA National Tournament berths to their names, the athletics department would like to congratulate and thank them for all their hard work and dedication to the university. We wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors.
