TIGERS UNLEASH FOUR GOALS TO ROLL PAST SAINT FRANCIS
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer team unleashed four goals to wrap their successful nonconference slate with a 4-1 victory at Saint Francis (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at Bishop D'Arcy Stadium.
The first half began with Olivet Nazarene applying early pressure, as Atjon Thaqi initiated the attack with a shot wide in the fifth minute, followed by multiple attempts that tested Saint Francis' goalkeeper Kevin Wachiaya Oneli. Despite this offensive push, Saint Francis capitalized on their opportunity, taking an early lead with a goal by Joshua Jelany in the 11th minute. Olivet Nazarene responded strongly, equalizing in the 25th minute through a goal from Stanley Hooker, setting up a tense remainder of the half that saw numerous fouls and a yellow card for both teams, closing the half at 1-1.
The second half began with Olivet Nazarene taking control as Daniel Martinez scored in the 53rd minute, assisted by Kingsley Kanu, to put the team ahead 2-1. The offensive efforts continued, with Kanu extending the lead to 3-1 in the 87th minute. Thaqi sealed the decisive victory with a goal shortly after in the 89th minute, finalizing a 4-1 triumph over Saint Francis.
Thaqi recorded a goal on four shots on goal, leading Olivet Nazarene's offensive efforts. Kanu contributed both a goal and an assist, converting his only shot on target. Martinez found the back of the net, securing his goal as the game-winner. Hooker added to the tally with a goal from his two shots, both on target.
Olivet Nazarene improved to 6-2-1 overall with the victory. They will open CCAC play with a home match against St. Francis (Ill.) Saturday.
