TIGERS EXTEND WIN STREAK WITH DEFEAT OF GOVERNORS STATE

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Olivet Nazarene (IL) (10-2-1, 5-0-0) shut out Governors State (2-11-1, 1-4-1) with a decisive 6-0 victory on Wednesday night at the Bahr Soccer Facility to extend their win streak to six games.

The first half commenced with Olivet seizing control early. Atjon Thaqi opened the scoring in the 6th minute with assistance from Daniel Martinez. A few minutes later, Martinez netted a goal of his own, with Gijs Van Den Berg providing the assist.

Olivet extended their advantage further when Niels Noordhoek scored in the 18th minute, solidifying a 3-0 lead. The team maintained pressure throughout the half, with multiple attempts from Kingsley Kanu and Thaqi challenging their opponent's defense. At the close of the first half, Olivet held a commanding 3-0 lead.

The second half began with Olivet extending their lead. Philip Joergensen scored at the 61:46 mark, pushing the home team's advantage to 4-0. Olivet maintained pressure, and Adrian Kang Hagman found the back of the net with an assist from Van Den Berg in the 77th minute, increasing the lead to 5-0.

Olivet continued their offensive momentum when Nathan Schmidli scored in the 83rd minute, assisted by Noa Norton. Governors State struggled to respond, while Olivet effectively managed the remainder of the match and secured the 6-0 victory.

Cedric Kunzli led the defense for Olivet who earned the clean sheet for the second time in the last three contests. Olivet has only allowed two goals in conference play so far this season.

With the win, Olivet improves to 10-2-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the conference. Governors State falls to 2-11-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference competition.

The Tigers will put their unbeaten conference record on the line when they travel to Palos Heights, Ill. next Saturday for a contest with the Trinity Christian Trolls.
