ONU WINS NINTH IN A ROW AFTER DECISIVE 7-1 VICTORY OVER HOLY CROSS
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Olivet Nazarene University (13-2-1, 8-0-0) secured a decisive 7-1 victory over Holy Cross (8-7-0, 5-3-0) with six different players contributing goals on Saturday afternoon.
Olivet started fast and set the tone for the match with a goal by Noa Norton at 2:09. Philip Joergensen extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal assisted by Niels Noordhoek at 4:11. Later, Noordhoek himself scored with an assist from Norton, bringing the score to 3-0 by 10:42. The Tigers maintained their lead throughout the remainder of the half and went to the break ahead 3-0.
Early in the second half, a foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick for Holy Cross. Daniel Alfaro found the back of the net and Holy Cross was on the board at 3-1. Only 30 seconds later, the Tigers responded with a Atjon Thaqi goal at 50:47, assisted by Daniel Martinez, bringing the score to 4-1. Martinez then converted a penalty kick at 58:32, followed by a goal from Noordhoek at 65:11, assisted by Gijs Van Den Berg. Nathan Schmidli capped off the scoring spree with a goal at 67:20, cementing the Tigers' position. The match concluded with the Tigers securing a decisive 7-1 victory.
The Tigers improve to 13-2-1 overall and 8-0-0 in conference. Holy Cross moves to 8-7-0 overall and stands at 5-3-0 in conference play.
Olivet heads to St. Xavier (Ill.) on Tuesday, Oct. 28 for their next conference match.
