TIGERS COME UP SHORT AT SAINT XAVIER
CHICAGO, Ill. — Olivet Nazarene University (5-3, 2-1) fell to Saint Xavier University (6-2, 4-0), 92-80, at the Shannon Center on Saturday, despite forcing 21 turnovers and scoring 18 points off those opportunities. The Cougars held a significant rebounding advantage, securing 54 boards compared to the Tigers' 33.
The Tigers opened the first quarter with a quick layup by Brooklyn Marshall at 9:50, followed by a 3-pointer from Elisabeth Good that gave them an early 5-2 edge. However, the Cougars responded swiftly, taking control with a substantial scoring run, culminating in their largest lead of 13 points at 0:37. Despite a late 3-pointer from Preslee Michael, Olivet trailed 26-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Olivet struggled to contain Saint Xavier's offensive momentum in the second quarter, as the home team extended its lead. Nell contributed further with a layup at 5:58 and a 3-pointer at 5:24, bringing Olivet within striking distance. Nell led the Tigers with 14 points, converting 7 of 9 free throws and adding two rebounds. Marshall contributed 12 points, recording five steals and two blocks in her defensive efforts. Flagg tallied eight points, including two 3-pointers, and provided three assists. Sikkink scored 12 points and collected six rebounds, showcasing efficiency by making 5 of 9 field goals.
