SECOND-HALF RALLY PROPELS ONU TO VICTORY IN SEASON OPENER
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's soccer team defeated Siena Heights 2-1 on Saturday at O'Laughlin Stadium. The Saints took an early lead with a goal in the first half, but the Tigers responded with two goals in the second half to secure the victory.
Olivet Nazarene recorded 14 shots with 9 on target, while Siena Heights had 9 shots with 6 on target. The Tigers' goalkeeper recorded 5 saves, contributing to the win.
Junior goalkeeper Meegan Randall contributed significantly to Olivet's defense with five saves. Aaliyah Racadio-Kahoohanohano was pivotal in the team's offensive success, netting one goal and providing an assist for the game-winning strike. Lopez led the team in shots with five, three of which were on target. Linares also found the back of the net, scoring on her only shot attempt.
In the first half, Olivet stayed aggressive with a series of early attempts on goal, with Lopez testing the Saints' goalkeeper Eads twice. Despite the pressure from the Tigers, the Saints managed to find the back of the net in the 24th minute with a goal by Cheney, marking the first and only goal of the half. Randall was pivotal for the Tigers, making several crucial saves, including efforts from Morris and Verhaeghe, to keep the score within reach.
The second half began with Olivet's team facing offside calls, but they soon found their rhythm. Linares equalized in the 73rd minute with her first goal of the season, assisted by Racadio-Kaho. The momentum continued when Racadio-Kaho scored the decisive goal in the 87th minute, securing a 2-1 victory for the Tigers.
The Tigers will stay on the road to face Goshen Wednesday afternoon at the Goshen Soccer Complex.
