TIGERS RETURN TO ACTION WITH DOMINANT 4-1 WIN OVER FORESTERS
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – After an over two-week break in their early schedule, the Olivet Nazarene University women's soccer team returned to action with a dominant 4-1 win at Huntington Saturday afternoon at King Stadium,
Olivet Nazarene scored three second-half goals to secure the road win.
The first half between Olivet Nazarene (IL) and Huntington (IN) saw a tightly contested affair with both teams creating opportunities. Huntington's Jianna Simons had an early shot saved by Olivet Nazarene's goalkeeper Helen Linares in the 10th minute. Olivet Nazarene broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute with a goal from Emma Daniels, assisted by Rebekah Delia, giving them a 1-0 lead. Despite several offside calls against the Tigers, they maintained offensive pressure, with Kennadi Thiessen's shot saved by Huntington's Macie Sanders. The half concluded with Olivet Nazarene leading 1-0, as both teams committed multiple fouls throughout the half.
Olivet Nazarene (IL) came out strong in the second half, quickly extending their lead with a goal by Melea Miller in the 48th minute, assisted by Aaliyah Racadio-Kahoohanohano. Just five minutes later, Samantha Larsen increased the margin to 3-0 with an unassisted goal. Olivet Nazarene continued their offensive pressure, with Cassidy Garberding scoring in the 57th minute off an assist by Sofia Diaz, pushing the score to 4-0. Huntington managed to respond in the 80th minute with a goal, but Olivet Nazarene maintained control, closing the half with a decisive 4-1 victory.
Miller scored the game-winning goal for the Tigers, capping her performance with three shots on goal. Garberding added another goal, converting her lone shot attempt. Diaz contributed with an assist, complementing her single-shot effort. Daniels found the back of the net, scoring with her only shot of the game.
Olivet Nazarene improves to 2-0-1 following their victory. They will play their home opener against St. Ambrose Wednesday evening.
