ONU WOMEN'S SOCCER REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN CONFERENCE PLAY AFTER 3-0 WIN AGAINST IUSB
PLYMOUTH, Ind. — Olivet Nazarene (IL) (7-0-6, 5-0-5) defeated Indiana South Bend (2-10-3, 0-7-2) 3-0 at Newton Park, with the Tigers' offense posting 34 shots and securing a shutout with four saves.
The first half began with Olivet Nazarene asserting early offensive pressure. Melea Miller opened the scoring in the 9th minute with an assist from Sofia Diaz, marking the first goal of the match. The Tigers maintained their attacking momentum, consistently challenging Indiana South Bend's defense, but were unable to extend their lead despite multiple attempts on goal.
Indiana South Bend's defense, led by goalkeeper Rylee Cotton, managed several saves to keep the score close. However, the Tigers' defense, with key contributions from Meegan Randall in goal, held firm. The half concluded with Olivet Nazarene leading 1-0, setting a strong foundation for the remainder of the match.
The second half began with Olivet Nazarene maintaining offensive pressure, highlighted by a corner from Sofia Diaz that led to a flurry of shots. Despite missed opportunities, including a saved penalty shot by Marisa Lopez, the Tigers found the net in the 52nd minute when Aaliyah Racadio-Kahoohanohano scored off an assist from Diaz to extend the lead to 2-0.
Indiana South Bend struggled to break through the Tigers' defense, with Randall making a crucial save in the 67th minute. The Tigers capitalized on their defensive stops, with Cassidy Garberding scoring in the 84th minute to seal a 3-0 lead. The half closed with continued offensive efforts from Olivet Nazarene, maintaining their three-goal advantage as the match concluded.
Cassidy Garberding scored one goal and managed two shots on goal out of three shots taken. Meegan Randall kept a clean sheet with four saves across 90 minutes, dividing her saves between three in the first half and one in the second half. Sofia Diaz delivered two assists while leading the team with seven shots, four of which were on target. Melea Miller netted a game-winning goal and fired six shots, with five being on goal.
