ONU SWIMMERS FIGHT ON DESPITE TOUGH COMPETITION AGAINST LEWIS

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Olivet Nazarene University's swim teams delivered a spirited performance in their dual meet against Lewis University on Saturday. Despite falling short in the overall team scores, ONU athletes showcased standout individual efforts across multiple events.

Women's Highlights

ONU's women's team kept the competition close, finishing just 15 points behind LU. The meet opened with a strong showing in the 200-yard medley relay, where the A-team (Inman, Bushey, King, Points) clocked 1:53.14 to secure second place. Grace Barnhart led the distance events with a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:11.87) and later claimed victory in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.28).

Sprint specialist Mia Points was a consistent force, placing second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.42) and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (57.01). Alyssa Osborn also impressed, winning the 100-yard freestyle (54.89) and placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.07).

ONU's women dominated the 200-yard butterfly, with Kayla Parry taking first (2:11.98), followed by strong swims from Jessica Vargas and Abigail Mosier. Parry also earned second in the 400-yard IM (4:45.54)..

Men's Highlights

The men's team faced a deeper LU roster but still delivered notable performances. The A-team in the 200-yard medley relay (Fincher, Holwerda, Shead, Fries) finished second with a time of 1:35.97. Jacob Fincher was a standout, placing second in both the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.16) and 100-yard butterfly (52.12).

Alejandro Arteaga Restrepo led ONU's sprint efforts, finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle (48.48) and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.77). Jack Fries claimed second in the 100-yard backstroke (53.43) and won the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.95), while Ethan Holwerda placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.58) and third in the 400-yard IM (4:27.52).

  • Women: Lewis University – 138, Olivet Nazarene University – 123
  • Men: Lewis University – 169, Olivet Nazarene University – 91

The Tigers are back at home in the Perry Center on Saturday, Oct. 25, with a start time of 1pm.
