TIGERS OPEN INDOOR SEASON WITH STRONG PERFORMANCES AT GVSU HOLIDAY OPEN
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Olivet Nazarene men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their indoor season with a series of standout performances at the GVSU Holiday Open, highlighted by personal records, top–five finishes, and promising early-season marks across multiple events.
On the men's side, distance events led the way. In the 5000m, senior David Olmos ran a personal-best 14:55.40, placing third in his heat. Later in the evening, senior Brandon Armendarez added another top finish by taking third overall in his section with a time of 15:08.16, followed by senior Nick Janson, who crossed in 15:20.62. Junior Charlie Bardwell delivered a strong effort in the men's mile, placing fifth in the open section at 4:21.42.
Senior Flynn Prather also put together a solid race in the men's 3000m, finishing eighth in 8:28.38. In the men's 800m, juniors Alex Johnson (1:58.09) and Chris Johnson (1:59.29) both ran competitive early-season times.
The field events featured notable highlights as well. Junior Desmond Hunter jumped to a new personal record in the high jump, clearing 1.92m (6-03.50) to place 14th. In the pole vault, junior Pacey Nack was unable to record a height, while freshman Jeremiah Gaines and junior Titan Shuler also did not complete a height in the high jump.
For the women, the distance squad shined with a standout victory from junior Isabella Wojciechowski, who won her section of the 5000m in a personal best 18:16.69. Senior Heidi Heldt also ran well in an earlier heat of the 5000m, finishing 22nd with a time of 17:50.15.
In field events, senior Hailey Perrine led the way in the long jump, placing sixth with a mark of 5.49m (18-00.25). Sophomore Avery Cawthorne earned a personal record with her jump of 5.07m (16-07.75), while junior Karissa Arvin landed at 4.59m (15-00.75). In the women's high jump, sophomore Sophie Dagnall cleared 1.48m (4-10.25) to finish 19th.
The Tigers leave the GVSU Holiday Open with momentum, several personal bests, and a strong foundation as they continue their indoor season.
