HELDT TOPS FIELD, LEADS ONU TO VICTORY AT HOME MEET
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Heidi Heldt bested the field to lead the Oilvet Nazarene University women's cross country team to victory at their home meet, the Midwest Classic, Friday afternoon at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course.
Heldt, who earned CCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors earlier in the season, continued her strong start to the year by placing first in the women's 6k with a time of 22:43.90. The senior from Weldon, Ill., finished over 30 seconds faster than the runner-up.
Four of the five ONU scorers placed inside the top 10. Behind Heldt was Hannah Haag, who collected bronze-medal honors with a time of 23:36.60. Violet Montgomery garnered a sixth-place finish at 23:48.40 and Isabella Wojciechowski placed 10th at 23:58.80. Claire Carter rounded out the ONU scoring, finishing just outside of the top 10 in 11th at 24:05.30.
The Tigers rolled to an easy win at the seven-team event, tallying just 31 points to claim the team crown. Governors State placed runner-up with 67 points.
ONU will next compete at the highly competitive Louisville XC Classic on Oct. 4.
