TIGERS FALL TO FIGHTING BEES IN STRAIGHT SETS
DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team came up short when they traveled west to take on St. Ambrose, falling to the Fighting Bees 16-25, 22-25, 22-25 Thursday night in Lee Lohman Arena.
ONU fell behind early in each of the first two sets. The Tigers were able to stay within striking distance, but came up short each time.
A service ace off the hand of Breanna Lamie followed up by kills from Sabrina Sanif and Kaitlyn Kolb helped ONU (6-14, 2-4 CCAC) to a fast 5-4 lead in the third set. The set was tied as late as 9-9 before St. Ambrose (8-12, 3-5 CCAC) used a five-point run to take the lead for good.
Hall Nicholas put down a kill to have the Tigers within one point at 22-23 before the Bees ripped off the two points needed to take the win.
Naomi Monney-Hori led the Tigers with five kills. Kolb finished with four and Nicholas was credited with three. Sanif and Ema Zula each put down two kills.
Kate Worth and Alyssa Russow shared the team-lead in assists with nine apiece. Sara Serafimova anchored the back row with 10 digs. Natalie Wall chipped in nine.
The Tigers will return home to hose Calumet Saturday night at 7 p.m.
