INCOMING FRESHMEN

Beginning in Fall 2022, high school graduates with a cumulative high school GPA of 2.3 will be eligible by only meeting that single requirement.

If a student fails to achieve a 2.3 cumulative high school GPA, he/she must meet two out of the three criteria listed below in order to gain eligibility.

  1. Earn a 2.0 cumulative high school GPA
  2. Score a 970 on the SAT or 18 on the ACT (for all tests taken after May 1, 2019)
  3. Be ranked in the top 50% of graduating class


NAIA Eligibility Center
All first-time NAIA athletes must receive an "eligible" decision from the NAIA before any competition may occur. 
For assistance, contact: ecinfo@naia.org

  1. Register with the NAIA Eligibility Center.
    • Notify your coach once registration is complete so he/she can add you to the short list. 
    • Approve being added to ONU's short list after the coach adds you. 
  2. Contact your high school and request for an official transcript to be sent directly to the NAIA Eligibility Center.
  3. If necessary, send an official ACT or SAT score to the NAIA Eligibility Center.
    • Test scores displayed on a high school transcript are not accepted.
    • 9876 - Use this code when registering for the ACT/SAT to send scores directly to the NAIA.

Olivet Nazarene University
On-campus Eligibility - Must be certified as "eligible" on campus before any competition may occur.

  1. Be enrolled as a full-time student at ONU (12+ credit hours in a semester).
    • exceptions may be available to undergrads in their final term before graduation and graduate students.
  2. Contact your high school and request for an official transcript to be sent directly to ONU.
  3. If necessary, send an official ACT or SAT score to ONU.
    • Test scores displayed on a high school transcript are not accepted.
    • Add ONU to the list of score recipients when registering for the test. 
  4. Send an official transcript to ONU from any college or university where college/dual credit was earned.
    • Your high school transcript may NOT be used to transfer college credit to ONU. 
    • The official college/dual credit transcript must come directly from the college or university where credit was earned.


TRANSFERRING TO ONU

Generally, in order to compete immediately as a transfer, a student must have earned at least 24 hours in his/her two most recent semesters, hold at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and have the 16-week residency requirement waived by the previous institution. (Some exceptions may apply, so contact Justin Glenn if you have questions.)

NAIA Eligibility Center
Must receive a decision before competition may occur. (This section may be ignored if you have already received an NAIA Eligibility Center before previously playing at an NAIA school.) For assistance, contact: ecinfo@naia.org

  1. Register with the NAIA Eligibility Center.

      • Credentials Solutions (use documents@naia.org as the recipient if an email is required)
      • Physical Mail (must be delivered in a school sealed envelope)

Olivet Nazarene University
On-campus Eligibility - Must be certified as "eligible" on campus before any competition may occur.

  1. Be enrolled as a full-time student at ONU (12+ credit hours in a semester).
  2. Send official transcripts to ONU from all previously attended colleges and/or universities.
    • The official transcript must come directly from the college and/or university where credit was earned.
    • Submit a transcript request to the college or university and use one of the following options.
      • If sending the transcript electronically and an email recipient is required, use registrar@olivet.edu.
      • If sending via physical mail, the transcript must be delivered in a school sealed envelope to the following address.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

All international student-athletes are required to receive an evaluation from InCred before receiving an NAIA Eligibility Center decision. Register with both InCred and the NAIA Eligibility Center and connect your profiles in order to receive the quickest determination.

CONTINUING ELIGIBILITY AT ONU

Eligibility certification must be completed on campus each semester before any competition may occur for a given student.


Graduate Student
A student who has completed all academic requirements for graduation and who is enrolled in a graduate program may participate in intercollegiate athletics, provided the student has eligibility remaining and the following conditions are met.

  • student must be enrolled in a full-time class load as defined by the ONU School of Graduate and Continuing Studies
  • to maintain eligibilty status, the student must successfully complete the full-time class load each term
  • the registrar must verify that the above conditions have been met prior to participation of the student

Transfer Credits
If there is a desire to take a course outside of ONU during the semester or during summer or winter break, be sure to complete a Request to Transfer Credit form prior to starting the course to make sure the credits will transfer to ONU. After credits are earned outside of ONU, an official transcript must be sent directly to ONU from the other institution where credit was earned. Request a transcript from the other institituion as soon as the course concludes and a final grade is posted. 

Second-Term Freshman
In order to remain eligible when entering the second semester of college, a student must be in good academic standing and earn at least nine credits in his/her first semster. 

24-Hour Rule
Typically, a student must earn at least 24 hours in his/her two most recent semesters in order to remain eligible. Up to 12 hours earned during the summer or between the fall and spring semesters can be applied to the total as long as those hours occurred between or after the two most recent semesters.

ONU Academic Standing
To remain in good academic standing at ONU, each student must meet the following cumulative GPA thresholds based on the number of overall hours attempted. A student will be on academic probation and ineligible for intercollegiate athletics if he/she does not meet the following thresholds.

19-29   1.7
30-45   1.8
46-59   1.9
60 or more   2.0


Progress Rule

As a student advances through college, he/she must be progressing toward completing degree requirements. All students must meet the following criteria in order to compete in each respective season. (This is not an exhaustive list of all policies, but these are the foundational items that should be understood.)

  • 2nd season of competition
    • 24 cumulative hours earned
    • 24 hours earned in two most recent semesters (up to 12 non-term hours earned during winter/summer break can be included in total)
    • 2.0 cumulative GPA
    • Be in good academic standing
  • 3rd season of competition
    • 48 cumulative hours earned
    • 24 hours earned in two most recent semesters (up to 12 non-term hours earned during winter/summer break can be included in total)
    • 2.0 cumulative GPA
    • Be in good academic standing
  • 4th season of competition
    • 72 cumulative hour earned
    • 24 hours earned in two most recent semesters (up to 12 non-term hours earned during winter/summer break can be included in total)
    • 2.0 cumulative GPA
    • 48 hours earned toward major or general education requirements
    • Be in good academic standing
