TIGERS PUSH WIN STREAK TO SIX WITH WIN OVER V-HAWKS
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene University's (ONU) women's basketball team powered past Viterbo University 82-67 inside McHie Arena on Wednesday evening.
The opening frame saw both team trading baskets before ONU managed to pull ahead. Despite a solid start by Viterbo, ONU's defense stifled their offense, holding the V-Hawks to just 26.3% shooting in the first quarter. Brooklyn Marshall and Khendel Rolison were key in the opening period, combining for 11 points and helping the Tigers take a 17-11 lead after the first 10 minutes.
In the second quarter, ONU's offense exploded, outscoring Viterbo 24-13 and taking a comfortable 41-24 lead into halftime. The Tigers' balance between inside scoring and perimeter shooting kept the V-Hawks on their heels. Calee Biedron was particularly effective, hitting 3 of her 4 free throw attempts while contributing offensively and on the glass. Viterbo's shooting improved to 33.3%, but they were unable to keep pace with ONU.
The V-Hawks came out with renewed energy after halftime, putting up 28 points in the third quarter. However, the Tigers answered right back, with their bench stepping up in a big way. The reserves contributed a combined 17 points. ONU maintained a comfortable lead of 67-52 heading into the final period, despite Viterbo's surge.
ONU finished strong in the fourth quarter, never allowing Viterbo to make a serious run. Rolison and Jayden Flagg combined for a pair of three pointers to help the Tigers hold their ground. ONU kept Viterbo at arm's length, ensuring their 82-67 win.
Looking Ahead
ONU will face a tough road challenge on Feb. 1st against the University of St. Francis with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CST. The Tigers will look to build on this win as they continue their push for the top spot in the conference standings.
