TIGERS TOP TRINITY INTERNATIONAL, 109-88

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference after defeating Trinity International University 109-88 Wednesday night at McHie Arena. The Tigers spread around the scoring with seven players reaching double figures while Zanna Myers tallied 15 points, five steals, and six rebounds on the night.



ONU started strong offensively scoring 28 first-quarter points. As a team, they shot 55 percent from the floor and went 5-8 from behind the arc in the first period. Karina Smits and Myers both converted three-point buckets to get the Tigers going. Alayha Allen tacked on an efficient 2-2 from the floor and 1-1 on the line coming off the bench. ONU after 10 minutes of play held a 10-point lead.  

 

Olivet clamped down the defensive pressure in the second quarter holding TIU to 33 percent from the floor and turned the ball over six times. Myers mirrored her first quarter registering another six points all from three-point land. She swiped the ball three times for the Tigers. ONU went into halftime with a 20-point lead.

 

Halftime: Olivet Nazarene 53, Trinity International 33

Trinity International came out of the break with renewed energy and outscored Olivet 31-22 in the third quarter. The Trojans' Breleigh Gula and Da'Naria Washington combined for 17 points to chip into the Tigers' lead. ONU got cold-shooting threes converting of 2-12. Caroline Boehne contributed an important six points going 3-3 from the floor in the quarter to keep TIU at arm's length.  

 

Olivia Demosthenes and Smits closed out the game by scoring five points each. Kennedy Johnson and Maggie Cora combined for five steals in the final 10 minutes. ONU created a multitude of second-chance buckets as they snagged seven offensive rebounds to TIU's zero.
