GRACE USED A STRONG SECOND HALF TO TAKE DOWN THE TIGERS

WINONA LAKES, Ind. – After upsetting the No. 16 Saint Xavier University Cougars on Tuesday, the Olivet Nazarene University women's basketball team traveled to Grace College for a Thursday night non-conference showdown.  The Lancers defeated the Tigers, 91-54.

 

Khendel Rolison and Kaitlyn Engle put the Tigers up early 6-2 after back-to-back threes.  Zanna Myers then added a three-ball to make the score, 9-6. The Lancers countered with a 9-0 run until Kennedy Johnson made a jumper.  Grace pulled in front, 15-11.  Despite Myers burying a three in the closing seconds of the quarter, the Lancers led, 30-18 at the end of the first quarter.

 

15 seconds into the second quarter, Maggie Cora made a layup to start the scoring for the Tigers.  The Lancers were leading by as much as 15 until the Tigers tried to mount a comeback.  With six minutes left, threes by Jamie Finn and Myers sparked an 8-0 run which cut the Grace lead to seven at 37-30.  The Lancers ended the quarter on an 11-5 run and led ONU 48-35 at the half.

In the second half, the Tigers struggled to get anything going on offensively as they were outscored 43-19.  Most of the offensive production came in the third quarter as Myers and Finn both knocked down threes and Johnson, Alayha Allen, and Kaitlyn Clark each scored a pair of points.  Caroline Boehne added a pair of points in the fourth as well. 

 

Grace used a strong second half to take down the Tigers, 91-54.

  • Myers led the Tigers with five three-pointers and 15 points. With those five threes, Myers moved into seventh place on the all-time three-pointers list with 241.
