ONU COMES OUT FLAT AGAINST CORNERSTONE

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – After a big win to open up the season a week ago, the Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball team fell flat against the Cornerstone Golden Eagles in McHie Arena Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles opened the game up with a 9-1 run and didn't look back, holding on to the lead for the remainder of play. The Tigers would score the next six points, with Jake Brown making a layup and Sam Emich drilling a three to make it a two-point game, but that was the closest ONU would get.

Down 11 points midway through the first half, Brown scored in the paint, Tyler Schmidt hit a three-pointer and Caleb Swearingen knocked down an elbow jumper to piece together a 7-0 run. However, the Golden Eagles would outscore the Tigers 37-20 over the next 11 minutes to take a 21-point lead into the locker room.

Halftime: Cornerstone 55, Olivet Nazarene 34

Cornerstone added to their lead to start the second half while the Tigers struggled to find their rhythm on offense. ONU went scoreless through the first four minutes of the second half until Griffin Andricks broke the drought with a fastbreak layup.

Landon Pflederer hit back-to-back threes to get the crowd into it, but it wasn't enough to get ONU back in the game as the Tigers fell to the Golden Eagles 94-77.
