ONU DEFEATED BY CALUMET, 3-1

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball team hosted Calumet College of St. Joseph Tuesday night falling 3-1. The Tigers started the match strong taking set number one but the Crimson Wave responded by winning the following three.

The Tigers took the early lead claiming 10 of the first 17 points. ONU benefited from six Crimson Wave errors while Jackson Harvey, Jaiton Kamaunu, and Sterling Staranchuk were credited with kills. With the set knotted up at 20 apiece, finished it off with a 5-2 run that included a block from Garett Schad and Staranchuck. The Tigers led early after a 25-22 win in the first set.

CCSJ evened up the match taking the second set 25-20. The score was 7-7 before the visitors strung together an 8-1 run. A kill from Collier Kahaku Marquez capped off a comeback to even the score at 19-19. Calumet surged to win the set 25-20 on the tail of a 6-1 run.

Calumet took their first lead in the match as the result of a 25-20 finish in the third set. Both sides traded points at the start with the score standing at 10-10. Each side went on runs from there to find themselves again tied at 19-19. CCSJ found their stroke registering three kills that ended the set on a 7-1 run.

The away squad carried their momentum from the previous two sets to claim the match in the fourth set 25-17. The Crimson Wave stormed out to a 14-5 lead out of the gates. ONU found their footing as Marquez, Harvey, and Kamaunu strung together consecutive kills, but it was not enough to extend the contest with Calumet heading back to Indiana with the win.
