OLIVET DROPS THEIR HOME OPENER IN STRAIGHT SETS TO LAWRENCE TECH

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball program fell at home to Lawrence Tech in straight sets Thursday night in McHie Arena. The Tigers' Jake Ostema led the home side with 12 kills off of 16 total attacks in the loss.

ONU fell in the first two sets which were tight affairs. The Purple and Yellow-Gold trailed 18-12 midway through the set No. 1 before a run of services from Thoralf Schmelzer and later from Cade Ooms cut the deficit to 21-20. LTU went on to claim four of the last seven points to claim the opening set.

Again, the Tigers fell by just two points in the second set. The home team held their own taking the lead six different times early on. After suffering a Lawrence Tech 5-1 run forcing head coach Daniel Cabrera into a timeout, Olivet responded with a 5-1 run of their own to tie the set at 19 apiece. They fought off two set points before succumbing in the end 25-23.

Lawrence Tech led the entire way in the third set. The Tigers did not go down easily and fought back from trailing 17-10 and made it a two-point set, 21-19. The visiting side was too much down the stretch as they claimed the match after scoring four of the final five points.
