HUDSON'S WALKOFF WIN LEADS TIGERS TO A SPLIT-RESULT DAY IN MISSOURI

FAYETTE, Mo. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball program split both games of a doubleheader Sunday to close out their two-day trip to Missouri. Kai Hudson highlighted the afternoon with a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Tigers to a 5-4 win over Columbia (Mo.). Later that day, ONU fell to No. 14 Central Methodist 8-3.


First Game: Olivet Nazarene 5, Columbia (Mo.) 4

Hudson ripped a wall-clearing shot to left field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Tigers rallied to defeat Columbia in walk-off fashion. The three-run home run scored Robert Jackman and Christian Amlong as ONU trailed 4-2 entering the final three outs. The three runs batted in bring the senior shortstop's RBI total to a team-leading 12. It is his second three-run home run of the season.

Geon Yoon hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2. Columbia took the lead in the top of the inning with a two-run homer before Yoon responded to level the score with his third long ball of the spring. The Cougars hit two more home runs in the sixth inning before Hudson stole the game in end.

Ethan Underwood made his fifth start of the year. The right-hander threw for six innings allowing six hits and four runs. He struck out four batters on the day for a total of 31 strikeouts on the year. Kainoa Mane registered his second win of the season in relief pitching a scoreless seventh inning with a strikeout.

 

Second Game: No. 14 Central Methodist 8, Olivet Nazarene 3

Geon Yoon hit his second home run of the day. The junior transfer from Seoul, South Korea put the Tigers on the scoreboard an in front with a two-run blast to left field. It is the first time he has hit home runs in back-to-back games and brings his home run total to four. The catcher has recorded an RBI in three consecutive games.

Taylor Steig batted 2-3 in the ball game scoring twice including his first home run of the season in the fourth inning. He finished the day with three hits and three runs total across both games in the doubleheader.

The Eagles scored all of their runs in bulk tallying five in the second inning and three in the fifth. Tommy Castro was given the start with Jonathan Simpson, Noah Bradshaw, and Jordan Rhoden making appearances in relief. Simpson led the team with three innings of work striking out five of the six total punchouts for the Tigers.
