TIGERS SLUGGED A COMBINED 23 RUNS IN DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST ROOSEVELT

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The RV Olivet Nazarene University softball team hosted the Roosevelt University Lakers for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader at Tiger Field on Tuesday afternoon.  The Tigers took care of business as they slugged four home runs and won game one, 13-5, before rallying from a pair of runs down in game two and led 10-5 after six innings.  The Game two got halted due to darkness and it will resume at a later date.  

 

Game One: RV ONU 13, RU 5 F/5

Head Coach Hannah Gardner sent out Olivia Flinn to start the game and Emily Blucker came into the game as a relief pitcher.  Blucker went 4.2 inning and surrendered two runs on two hits and struck out three batters.

 

The Tigers jumped on Laker pitching early in the first inning as they struck for a pair of runs making the score, 2-0. Vannah Vaughan scored on a wild pitch and Megan Mann hit a run-scoring single.  The Lakers scored three runs in the bottom of the frame and took a 3-2 lead going into the second inning.  The Tigers kept up their offensive production heading into the second inning.  With one out, The Tigers tied the game at three after Matti Lanie split the gap on an RBI double. The Tigers then retook the lead when Vaughan platted Lanie on a sacrifice fly.  After Haley Dobson dropped in a double, Mann smacked a two-run home run and made the score, 7-3. 

 

After a quiet top of the third inning, the Lakers closed the gap to 7-5 after two came around to score on an error by the Tiger catcher.  The Tigers broke open the score in the top of the fourth.  With one out and a runner on, Kori Fricke hit a two-run home run and made the score, 9-5.  After Allie Timm walked and Faith Mikos hit a double, Margaret Landis deposited a three-run homer over the left field fence and moved the score to 12-5.  Lanie then followed that three-run homer with a solo homer of her own as the Tigers grew their lead to 13-5. 

 

The Tigers hammered four home runs and Blucker earned her third win in two days as the Tigers won game one of today's doubleheader, in five innings, 13-5.

 

Game Two: RV ONU 10, RU 5 (Halted due to darkness in the sixth inning)

The Tigers turned to Fricke in the circle for game two.  The Tiger right-hander went six innings and surrendered five runs on seven hits and struck out four batters.  

 

The Tigers kicked off the scoring with a run at the top of the first inning when Lanie scored on a groundout.  The Lakers then scored three unanswered runs and led 3-1 until the sixth inning.  In the sixth inning, the Tigers came roaring back. With one out, pinch-hitter Faith Mikos scorched a double over the centerfielder's head and tied the game at three.  Then, after Dobson was intentionally walked and Megan Mann singled, Mikos scored the go-ahead run on a groundout.  Fricke then smacked a three-run homer over the centerfield fence as the Tigers led 7-3.  ONU was not done yet as Margaret Landis platted Timm on an RBI single and Lanie scored two more on a single.  The Tigers came back and led 10-3. 

 

The Lakers tried to make some noise in the bottom of the inning as they pushed across two more runs on a two-run single and made score, 10-5.   The game was halted due to darkness in the sixth inning.  This story will be updated after the two teams finish out the seventh inning at a later date.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers play their third doubleheader in three days as they host the Trojans of Trinity International University at Tiger Field on Wednesday, April 6th.  The doubleheader will start at 3 p.m.
