ONU'S COMEBACK BID NOT ENOUGH AGAINST ROOSEVELT

BOURBONNIAS, IL. - In a hard-fought battle on the hardwood, Olivet Nazarene University's women's basketball team faced a formidable opponent in Roosevelt University, coming up short in their pursuit of victory with a score of 106-91.

The opening quarter set the tone for a competitive matchup. Despite a solid offensive effort from sophomore forward Brooklyn Marshall, who managed to sink a couple of free-throws and a layup, the Lakers held a narrow lead, finishing the quarter with a score of 29-16.

The second quarter saw the Lakers continue to control the tempo of the game. ONU shot 46% from the field in the quarter, while holding Roosevelt to just 45% shooting. The Lakers outscored the Tigers by ten points in the quarter, extending their lead to 58-37 at the half.

ONU came out of the halftime break determined to mount a comeback. Sophomore guard Olivia Dirkse's relentless energy and Marshall's clutch layups sparked a renewed offensive effort. ONU chipped away at Roosevelt's lead, showcasing improved defensive intensity and opportunistic offense. The quarter ended with Roosevelt holding a large 83-69 advantage.

The final quarter was a nail-biter. Both teams continued to score at a high rate, creating a thrilling back-and-forth battle. However, Roosevelt's offensive depth proved too much for ONU to handle down the stretch. The Lakers capitalized on ONU's late fatigue and pulled away in the closing minutes, securing the 106-91 victory.
