IHARA NETS TWO GOALS TO ADVANCE ONU TO SEMIS

BOURBONNAIS, IL. - Olivet Nazarene University's men's soccer secured their place in the CCAC semifinals with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Viterbo University in a high-stakes quarterfinal matchup on their home turf on Saturday.

 

First Half: Tigers Take the Early Lead

The stage was set and the match got off to a roaring start as both teams exhibited their prowess on the field. The Tigers wasted no time asserting their dominance, with a brilliant goal coming in the 20th minute. Junior defender Kurodo Ihara showcased his finesse, making an impressive strike to put ONU on the board, courtesy of a perfectly timed assist by freshman defender Kai Bucher. ONU took an early lead, displaying their offensive prowess.

 

Second Half: Viterbo Strikes Back, but Tigers Secure the Win

As the second half commenced, Viterbo was determined to make a comeback. The tension was palpable, and it wasn't long before Viterbo managed to level the score in the 45th minute. However, the Tigers were not to be outdone. In the 63rd minute, they struck once more, regaining their lead with a beautiful goal by Ihara, this time assisted by sophomore defender Noa Norton. The ONU defense held strong for the remainder of the match, ensuring Viterbo couldn't find the equalizer.

 

Looking Ahead

As they celebrate their hard-fought quarterfinal victory, the Tigers look ahead to the next challenge. They are now set to advance to the CCAC semifinals, where they will face off against Trinity Christian College on Nov. 8 th.
