TIGERS DROP NON-CONFERENCE TWIN BILL TO WARRIORS

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A big inning in each game cost the Olivet Nazarene University softball team as the Tigers dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Indiana Tech by scores of 4-1 and 12-4 Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Park.

The opener saw the Warriors score three times in the bottom of the sixth after the Tigers had come back to tie the game 1-1. Then in the nightcap, Indiana Tech pushed across four runs in the bottom of the first to take control of the game.

Indiana Tech took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of game 1. Zoe Oshiro got things going for ONU with a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth. She quickly scooted over to third base following a Gwen Bender sacrifice bunt and a passed ball. Oshiro then scampered home on an Indiana Tech error to knot the game at 1-1.

Neither team could grab the lead until the warriors strung together three runs in two plate appearances with an RBI double and a two run homer to take the lead and the momentum. The Tigers were retired in order in the seventh to end the game.

Allie Timm was charged with the loss after pitching five innings as the starter. Olivia Flinn pitched a full inning of shutout ball in relief.

The Tigers struck first in the second game. Margaret Landis used her speed to get into scoring position, reaching first on a fielder's choice before stealing second and moving over to third on a passed ball. Stephanie Hause then lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Landis and take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Indiana Tech, however, responded with a four-run frame in their half of the first to take a commanding lead. The Tigers continued to put runs across with Landis scoring Oshiro in the second and Bombardiere plating Mallory O'Connor in the third, but the Warriors continually had the answer to ultimately end the game in six innings.

Hause led ONU with two hits and two RBI in the game 2 loss. Flinn was tagged with the loss as the starter. Timm and Kloie Cole pitched a combined four innings in relief.

The Tigers will look to get in the win column when they travel to St. Louis for a doubleheader at Missouri Baptist Friday, Feb. 23.
