TIGERS SPLIT CONFERENCE TWIN BILL AT TRINITY CHRISTIAN

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team got back in the win column as they split a doubleheader against Trinity Christian Saturday afternoon at the Schaaf Athletic Complex. The Tigers jumped on the Trolls to build an early lead and cruise to a 6-2 victory in the opener before dropping the finale 8-1.

The first three Tigers reached base in the opener to quickly load the bags. Allie Timm got her team on the board by lifting a sacrifice fly to plate Zoe Oshiro. Gwen Bender followed her up with a walk to re-load the bases before Kahiwa Ili was hit by a pitch to extend the ONU lead to two in the first inning.

Trinity Christian (18-18, 5-3 CCAC) cut the deficit in half in the third, the Tigers responded with runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to put the game out of reach. An error allowed Alyssa McCord to wheel home the fourth, Timm notched an RBI single in the sixth, and McCord recorded an RBI single of her own in the seventh to cap off the ONU scoring and secure the Tiger win.

Timm went the distance as the Tiger starter, twirling five strikeouts and only allowing two earned runs to pick up her fourth win of the season. Carissa Bombardiere led the offense with her 3-for-4 day at the plate. Margaret Landis, Timm, Bender, and McCord all recorded two hits each.

The Tigers pounded out seven hits in the nightcap but they didn't translate into runs as the Trolls ran away with it. Oshiro swiped home plate in the first to stake ONU to a 1-0 lead, but that proved to be the only run as TCC scored eight unanswered to split the doubleheader.

Bender was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in the second game. Bombardiere also had a multi-hit game with two base knocks. Oshiro and Landis both recorded a hit, as well. Olivia Flinn was tagged with the loss as the starter.

ONU will turn around to face Judson Monday afternoon for a doubleheader at Tiger Field. Game one is slated for 2 p.m. CST.
