ONU TAKES DOWN WHEATON, IIT AT CHICAGO QUADRANGULAR

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's and women's swimming & diving teams took two out of three at the Chicago Quadrangular Saturday afternoon at the Myers-McLoraine Pool in Chicago, Ill.

The ONU men handled Illinois Institute of Technology and Wheaton College 161-108 and 165-111, respectively, while falling 207-71 to the University of Chicago. The Tiger women took care of business against IIT 208-55 and Wheaton 186-61 and fell 204-87 to UIC.

A pair of Tigers were dual-event winners for the men. Aleks Parsetich took down the distance events, winning the 1000-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of  9:53.57 and the 500-yard freestyle at 4:48.74. Jack Fries swam personal-best times to win two events, taking down the 100 breaststroke at 58.13 and the 200 backstroke at 1:54.48. He also recorded a personal-best time in the 100 butterfly (52.87) for a fifth-place finish.

Bryce Rodriguez snapped off a personal record in the 50-yard freestyle to start the meet, touching the wall at 56.64. Porter Hoffman recorded PRs in the 100-yard (52.98) and 200-yard (2:06.31) butterflies. Ollie Shead set best in both the 100-yard butterfly (51.74) and 100-yard backstroke (53.32), netting fourth-place finishes in each event.

Fries, Shead, Mason Beall, and Timothy Braun teamed up for a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:08.98 to close out the meet.

Three Tigers were individual winners for the ONU women at the Chicago Quadrangular. Julie Vega went first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.77 and Kayla Parry was the champ in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:06.62. Halle Briner touched the wall first in both the 100-yard freestyle (54.53) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.41).

Vega earned runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.47. Briner and Parry both placed third in the 200-yard IM at 2:12.30 and 100-yard breaststroke at 59.19, respectively.

Grace Barnhart led the ONU women in the distance events, finishing in third place in both the 1000-yard freestyle at 11:15.83 and the 500-yard freestyle at 5:26.69. Faith Markley set multiple personal bests in the pool, notching PRs in both the 100-yard (1:05.03) and 200-yard (2:29.16) butterfly events.

The ONU women opened the meet as winners of the 200-yard medley relay, with Kayla Parry, Vega, Ashley Parry, and Taylor King touching the wall first at 1:48.44.

"Both teams swam very well in a competitive meet," said ONU Head Coach Nate Duell. "UIC is one of the top teams in the NCAA Division III ranks and Wheaton is always a solid bunch. The women's team continues to impress with fast times and great racing and the men's team took a big step forward with several national times and personal-best times."

The Tigers will continue their season at the annual Don Kimble Invite in Kentwood, Mich. The three-day meet is set to begin on Friday, Nov. 17.
