ONU SOFTBALL DROPS TWO GAMES AT AQUINAS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team failed to get much going as they dropped a non-conference doubleheader against Aquinas Friday afternoon at the Gainey Athletic Complex.

The Tigers kept pace early in the opener, but allowed a big inning towards the end to suffer a 10-2 defeat before failing to put any runs on the board in an 8-0 setback to close out the doubleheader.

After the Saints (6-0) jumped out to a two-run lead in the first inning of the opener, the Tigers rallied for two quick runs in the third to tie the game. Allie Timm and Carissa Bombardiere roped back-to-back singles to lead off the inning before Zoe Oshiro's sacrifice bunt brought home Timm. Kahiwa Ili then blasted an RBI single to left field to make it a 2-2 ballgame.

But Aquinas would respond with eight unanswered runs, including a five-spot inning in the sixth, to end the game early at 10-2. Despite the final score, eight of nine Tigers recorded a hit in the loss. Timm was given the loss as the starting pitcher.

The Tigers only mustered two hits and failed to push any runs across in the nightcap, falling to a final score of 8-0. Ili and Ali Fullingim were responsible for the two ONU hits. Kloie Cole was credited with the loss.

ONU will begin their spring break trip with 10 games in Arizona beginning with a bout against Simpson (Calif.) on Monday, Mar. 11 at 11 a.m. CST.
