ONU BLANKS ST. AMBROSE ON THE ROAD

DAVENPORT, Iowa -  Olivet Nazarene University's (ONU) men's soccer team continued their strong start to conference play with a 2-0 road victory over the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University on Tuesday. The Tigers controlled the tempo of the game from the outset, scoring both goals in the first half and locking down defensively to secure their second straight conference win.

The Tigers wasted no time asserting themselves, with Nathan Schmidli breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute. Schmidli latched onto a precise assist from Kurodo Ihara, calmly finishing to put ONU ahead. The Tigers' quick passing and movement kept St. Ambrose on their heels, and in the 31st minute, it was Ihara's turn to shine. Assisted by Bas De Vries, Ihara drove home a second goal, giving ONU a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Tigers shifted gears to focus on protecting their lead. The backline was rock-solid, thwarting any St. Ambrose attempts to cut into the deficit. ONU's defense, combined with key saves from goalkeeper Leonard Bewig, kept the Fighting Bees off the scoresheet. The Tigers' balanced performance earned them a well-deserved clean sheet and another valuable conference win.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will return home for their next conference match against the Indiana Northwest Redhawks on September 28th, at 4:30 p.m. CST. ONU will look to build on their momentum as they continue their push for a successful conference campaign.
