ONU PICKS UP STRAIGHT-SET VICTORY OVER VITERBO

LaCROSSE, Wis. –  The Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball team cruised to a straight-set victory over Viterbo at a tri-match hosted by the V-Hawks Saturday afternoon in the R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium.

The Tigers downed conference foe Viterbo in a 25-20, 25-21, 26-24 straight-set victory before falling 25-16, 25-15, 20-25, 25-12 in a non-conference bout with UW-Stevens Point. ONU opened the weekend with a five-set defeat at St. Ambrose in Davenport, Iowa.

Cade Ooms and Brody McAfee combined for 28 kills in the 3-0 win over Viterbo, with the former putting down a career-best 18 kills to lead ONU to victory.

Viterbo (3-19, 0-4 CCAC) seemed poised to keep the match alive with a late rally to force a deuce at 24-24. But McAfee put down his 10th kill of the match before teaming up with Kahaku Marquez to roof a block and seal off the Tiger win.

Marquez finished with eight kills and a team-leading five blocks. Jackson Harvey collected four kills and Jaiton Kamaunu added two. Tomas Gonzalez (22) and Will Byers (13) combined for 35 of the team's 38 assists. Kamaunu had a team-best 10 digs.

The Tigers will host Trinity Christian Tuesday night in McHie Arena.
