TIGERS TOPPED BY COUGARS IN STRAIGHT SETS FOR CCAC HOME OPENER

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball played their conference home opener but ultimately fell 3-0 to No. 14 Saint Xavier Tuesday night.

The Tigers started off well in set number one making a comeback after trailing 9-3 early. Collier Kahaku Marquez aced two services back-to-back cutting the lead to two. ONU rattled off four consecutive points late in the set which included an ace serve from James Ballance and a kill from Marquez. The Cougars took the first set 25-20.

Cougars stormed out a 15-0 lead out of the gates in the second set. The Tigers could not recover falling 25-9 in the set and 2-0 in the match.

ONU responded with a 7-2 run after conceding seven of the first eight points in the third. Max Slaughter attempted to extend the match with consecutive service aces late with the score of 23-13, but the Cougars ended the contest with a service ace and a final score of 25-13.

The Tigers enter the Judson University Tournament where they will play Maranatha Baptist and Goshen on Friday, Feb. 11 at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.
