ONU DOMINATES JUDSON IN FOUR-GAME SERIES SWEEP

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball team tacked on four wins to their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) record by completing a dominant four-game series sweep of the Judson Eagles this weekend.

The Tigers handled business in Elgin with double-digit scoring margin wins Friday, taking down the Eagles by scores of 26-3 and 17-3. ONU sent out 32 hits across the two games in the dominant sweep. Jack Dupuis and Geon Yoon recorded six RBIs each in the opener, while Taylor Steig (5) and Andy Onnen (3) both recorded multi-RBI games to lead the ONU offense in the nightcap.

Jeffrey Vest and Jordan Rhoden picked up Friday's wins as the ONU starters. Vest went four innings in the opener, scattering three hits with two earned runs and a strikeout. Rhoden wrapped the big day with a seven-inning complete game with three earned runs on five hits and career-high seven strikeouts.

The offense picked up late for ONU in Saturday's opener. After Judson (6-24, 1-11 CCAC) took a one-run lead in the third inning, the Tigers responded with multiple runs across the next three innings to pick up the big 12-1 lead. Steig gave his team the lead with a two-run double in the bottom of the third, which opened the floodgates for ONU. Thomas Plizga picked up his first win of the season as the starter.

The series finale was the tightest game of the bunch. Onnen staked ONU to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when his groundball caused an errant play in the field that cleared the bases. Taylor Bledsoe extended the lead to four in the following frame, and the Tigers eventually extended the lead to 7-1 by the end of the fifth inning.

The Eagles rallied, however, cutting the ONU lead to 8-6 after the top of the eighth. But an Evan Pogioli RBI fielder's choice tacked on an insurance run as the Tigers completed the sweep with a 9-6 win in the finale.

The Tigers will enjoy a bye week before returning to the diamond for a doubleheader next Tuesday, April 9, at Saint Xavier.
