TIGERS TAKE DOWN VITERBO 1-0 TO MOVE FORWARD IN CCAC TOURNAMENT
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Olivet Nazarene University's (ONU) men's soccer team claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Viterbo University on Thursday in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) quarterfinals, avenging a recent regular-season loss to the V-Hawks and advancing to the semifinals.
In the first half, ONU came out with intensity, determined to flip the script after falling to Viterbo just days prior. The Tigers struck in the 13th minute when Gijs Van Den Berg found the back of the net with a composed finish, putting ONU up 1-0. With the early lead, ONU settled into a steady rhythm, working to control possession while limiting Viterbo's scoring chances.
The second half saw a resilient ONU defense stand firm against increased pressure from the V-Hawks, who pressed hard for an equalizer. The Tigers' backline stayed composed, turning away multiple Viterbo attacks and holding onto their narrow lead. Despite Viterbo's best efforts, ONU's disciplined defense and strong midfield presence allowed them to close out the game with the clean sheet intact.
Looking Ahead
ONU will now head on the road to face a tough opponent in Governors State University on Nov. 11th at 1 p.m. CST in the CCAC semifinals. As they prepare for a challenging matchup, the Tigers aim to carry this momentum forward and take another step toward a conference title.
