
FOUR-GAME WINNING STREAK SNAPPED WITH ROAD LOSS AT IU-SOUTH BEND
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Olivet Nazarene women's basketball team snaps a four-game winning streak with a road loss to the Indiana University South Bend Titans 108-82 Thursday night. Maggie Cora went off for a season-high 21 points in the contest.
The Tigers started strong winning the first quarter 22-20. Eight different players recorded a basket while Caroline Boehne reeled in five boards in the opening period. IU-South Bend jumped out to an 8-5 lead in the opening four minutes of play. A Khendel Rolison bucket at the 5:19-mark tied the game at 11-apiece. Both sides traded blows from then on with neither team leading by more a possession. Boehne's layup with 15 seconds left gave ONU the slight edge at the first official break.
Olivet suffered eight turnovers to South Bend's four in the second quarter. Cora snapped a 7-0 run by the Titans with a three-point bucket to start the period. IU-SB capitalized on turnovers to build a 41-32 lead at the 3:15-minute mark. The home team extended their lead in the last 35 seconds of the half by getting to the free-throw line leading to a 5-0 run.
Halftime: IU-South Bend 50, Olivet Nazarene 41
South Bend carried the momentum from the first half into the second outshooting Olivet 75% to 29.2% from the floor. Despite making the same number of threes, The Titans went 3-5 from downtown to the Tigers 3-14. Karina Smits and Jamie Finn brought a spark off the bench by both scoring five points in the quarter. Smits drained a three at the 8:41-mark to cut the lead to seven, but IU-SB rattled off an 11-1 run to break open the game. Heading into the final quarter, the score stood at 83-64.
The Tigers could not find a comeback in the final quarter as the home side remained efficient from the floor. Olivet took care of the ball by not committing a turnover in the last 10 minutes of play and took 10 more shot attempts, but could only make six of their 26 tries. Smits added another six points which included two threes and Cora poured in another five. The Titans went on to claim the win 108-82.
