TIGERS DEFEATED TWICE AS HOSTS OF THE ONU QUAD

BOURBONNAIS,Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University men's volleyball lost both matches as hosts of the ONU Quad. The Tigers fell in straight sets to No. 9 Indiana Tech followed by a defeat to Goshen College 3-1. ONU debuted for the first time in program history in McHie Arena.

First Match: No. 9 Indiana Tech 3, Olivet Nazarene 0

The Tigers started strong out the gate forcing the Warriors to come back from an ONU set-point at 24-23. Indiana Tech ended the first set scoring three consecutive points to take the early lead in the match. A balanced attack by Olivet saw four different players register three or more points. Titus Thompson led the way with five total attacks with a .800 hitting percentage.

IT took advantage of eight ONU service errors to roll to a 25-18 win in set two. The Tigers jumped out to a 3-1 lead but the Warriors responded with a 9-2 run of their own. Kills from Jaiton Kamaunu and Titus Thompson in addition to an Indiana Tech error cut the lead to just three at 17-14. Indiana Tech ended the set on an 8-4 run to take a two-set advantage in the match.

The visitors carried their momentum into the third set to complete the sweep. The Warriors stormed out to an 8-3 lead at the start. IT streaked for a 7-2 run that built a 21-10 advantage. The Tigers did not go down easy as they sparked a 6-1 run of their own and staved off three match-points. Indiana Tech ended the contest with a kill and a third set score of 25-17.

Second Match: Goshen College 0, Olivet Nazarene 1

Olivet Nazarene claimed set number one for the first time this season. The Tigers came back from being down 3-0 early to tie up the score 7-7 after an impressive pancake dig from James Ballance. James Harvey gave ONU their first lead of the night by contributing a block and a kill to create a 9-8 lead. The Maple Leafs regained their advantage by way of a 5-1 run. Olivet chipped away to tie the set back up 18-18. The Tigers ended the set outscoring GC 7-5 down the stretch to take the 25-23 win.

Goshen College tied up the match by taking the second set 25-13. The Maple Leafs outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the early going. ONU suffered eight errors to GC's two. Goshen capped off the set by going on an 8-3 run.

GC took their first match lead after winning the third set 25-20. Both sides traded points early with neither side holding greater than a two-point lead. With the score knotted up at 11 apiece, Goshen went on an 8-2 run. Despite the deficit, the Tigers fought off four straight set-points before a service error gave Goshen the win.

The Maple Leafs closed out the night by taking the fourth set 25-22. ONU etched ahead outscoring GC 15-10. Goshen responded with an 8-3 run to tie up the set at 18-18. Goshen's Lucas Sauder took it into his hands to end the contest by tallying three kills in their final 5 points to leave Bourbonnais with the victory.
