ONU HITS MULTIPLE NATIONAL QUALIFYING MARKS AT GVSU HOLIDAY OPEN
ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Olivet Nazarene University track & field teams continued their fast start to the 2023-24 season, setting school records and hitting multiple national qualifying marks at the GVSU Holiday Open last Friday afternoon.
Hannah Antkoviak and Vince Giuliano each set multiple school records.
Antkoviak opened the meet with an 8.60 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, hitting the NAIA A-standard mark and setting a new school record. She then improved on that record in the finals, bolting to a new program-record time of 8.50 to win the event.
The junior harrier from Allegan, Mich., then turned around to win the 400m dash, setting a new school record along the way with an NAIA A-standard time of 54.70. Tera Miller also ran well in the event, crossing the finish line at 57.69 to place fifth and notch an NAIA B-standard mark.
Vince Giuliano bettered his school record time by almost a full second in the 400m dash this weekend, bolting to a meet-best time of 47.18 to hit the A-qualifying mark and win the event. He then clocked in at 21.12 to win the 200m dash, hit that A-standard mark, and set a new ONU record. The senior sprinter from Concord, Mich., is now the current ONU record holder for the 60m, 200m, and 400m dashes.
A pair of ONU freshmen records fell at the GVSU Holiday Open. Joseph Randolph clocked in at 22.01 in the 200m dash to break the ONU Indoor freshman record while Martin Thompson came in at 50.08 to set the ONU freshman record in the 400m dash. Conner Betts ran a 48.96 in the 400m dash for an NAIA B-standard national qualifying mark.
Kayla Mikottis punched her ticket to nationals this weekend, hitting the national qualifying A-standard in the weight throw with a toss of 16.99m.
Carsyn Burdine, Antkoviak, Miller, and Tori Orton teamed up to hit the NAIA A-standard in the women's 4x400m relay, posting a time of 3:53.29 to place third in the event.
The Tigers will take a break to celebrate the holidays but will be back on the track on Jan. 20, 2024 for the Heenan Invitational in Naperville, Ill.
