TIGERS SWEEP AQUINAS AT ROSEMONT DOME TOURNAMENT

ROSEMONT, Ill. –  In their second tournament in as many weekends, the Olivet Nazarene University softball team pulled off a pair of wins over Aquinas this weekend at the Rosemont Dome Tournament.

ONU swept two games over Aquinas with a 5-2 win in Friday's nightcap followed by a 5-4 victory in Saturday's opener. The Tigers opened the weekend with a 5-2 loss to Roosevelt and 10-1 setback to Madonna.

The Tigers scored runs in three consecutive innings to power their way to the first win over the Saints Friday night. Faith Mikos tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third with an RBI double that plated Zoe Oshiro from first base. In the following frame, Gwen Bender smacked a leadoff double and was promptly scored by Ali Fullingim two batters later to put ONU up 2-1.

Shylar Boze extended the lead to three by plating Kahiwa Ili and Stephanie Hause with a two-out hit in the fifth. She then tacked on an insurance run with an RBI triple in the seventh, and the Tigers would hold on for the 5-2 win.

Olivia Saldana went the distance as the ONU starter, only surrendering one earned run through seven innings to pick up the win.

ONU battled back from a 3-1 deficit to pick up the extra-inning win on Saturday against Aquinas. Bender got the Tigers to within one with an RBI double down the left-field line in the fourth inning, with the lead holding at 3-2 over the next three frames.

With the team down to its last out, Boze came up big with an RBI single to center field to tie the game and force extra innings. After the Saints jumped ahead with a run in the top of the eighth, Autumn Adamik was the hero with a walk-off RBI fielder's choice to cap the 5-4 win.

RBI singles in the bottom of the first from Mikos and Ili had the Tigers up 2-0 early against Roosevelt in the tournament opener. But that would prove to be the only runs the Tigers could scratch across, allowing the Lakers to tie the game in the third. RU then took the lead in the fourth and would hold on for the win.

The Tigers could not get any offense going in the finale, only mustering three hits in the five-inning contest against Madonna.

ONU will look to build some momentum when they travel to Indiana Tech for a doubleheader Saturday.
