ONU SWEEPS CALUMET BEHIND STRONG ATTACK FROM McAFEE, OOMS

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene men's volleyball took care of business in straight sets against Calumet College of St. Joseph on Tuesday night, securing a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-19, 25-21) in CCAC play at McHie Arena.

Brody McAfee led the Tigers with a match-high 15 kills on a .545 hitting percentage, while Cade Ooms followed with 14 kills at a .591 clip. Tomas Gonzalez dished out 22 assists, and the Tigers' aggressive serving made a difference, racking up nine aces, including four from McAfee.

The opening set was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team pulling away early. Ooms and McAfee found their rhythm midway through, each delivering key kills to keep ONU in control. A late service ace from McAfee helped the Tigers gain separation, and they closed out a 25-22 win to take the first set.

ONU carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to an early lead behind a .462 team hitting percentage. McAfee and Jaiton Kamaunu continued to apply pressure, and a pair of service aces helped the Tigers build a comfortable cushion. Calumet called timeout down 9-3, but the Tigers maintained their dominance, never allowing the Crimson Wave back in it as they rolled to a 25-19 win.

The Tigers looked to complete the sweep in the third, but Calumet responded with a fight. The teams traded points throughout the frame, with Ooms and McAfee continuing to power the ONU attack. The Tigers tightened up defensively late, capitalizing on errors and closing the door with a kill from Ooms to take the final set 25-21 and seal the 3-0 victory.
