EXTRA INNINGS SEES ONU OUTLAST THE ROOSEVELT 7-6

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Continuing the postponed contest from March 26, the Olivet Nazarene University baseball team improved to 8-4 in conference and 18-15 overall after downing Roosevelt (18-9, 6-5 CCAC) 7-6 on Wednesday afternoon. Taylor Steig drove in two of the Tigers' four runs while Donovan Yelle walked it off with a hit-by-pitch in extra innings.

ONU and RU made it to the fourth inning before play was paused due to inclement weather. Steig opened the scoring with pushing Jack Dupuis across home plate for his first RBI in the first inning. The first baseman added another run in the third inning as his ball-in-play scored Robert Jackman.

The Lakers manufactured their first run in the second inning to tie the score at 1-1 and then leveled the score again before play halted with an RBI double down the left field line. The game was paused with the score standing at 2-2 and play was scheduled to resume Wednesday, April, 5 to complete the remainder of the contest.

As the ballgame got back underway, Olivet scored two quick runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to regain the lead for a third time. Noah Couch batted in his 17th run of the season off a double to left-center field with Jack Spittal scoring. In the very next at bat, Jackman doubled the ONU lead with an RBI single.

Roosevelt scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to claim the lead for the first time. Aiden Van Duzer and Garret Mooney provided the timely hitting in bottom of the inning to tied up the score and send the game to extra innings.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Donovan Yelle was struck by a pitch to push across the game-winning run.

Jorden Rhoden was credited with his second win of the year pitching the final one and one-third innings. Thomas Burns' game as the starter concluded by pitching six and two-thirds inning with seven strikeouts.
