TIGERS FINISH ROAD SLATE WITH A DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP AT JUDSON

ELGIN, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team hit the road for the final time in the regular season as they played a doubleheader against the Eagles of Judson University on Tuesday afternoon.  The Tigers made quick work of the Eagles as they won 11-2 in the first game, while the two teams combined for, four runs, but the Tigers took game two, 3-1. The Tigers have won their last eight games and finish their road slate with a 9-2 record.  

 

Game One: ONU 11, Judson 2 F/6

The Tigers sent Kori Fricke out for game one of today's doubleheader.  The Tiger right-handed pitcher went the distance and surrendered two runs on seven hits and struck out three batters. Fricke moves her record to 13-4 on the season. 

 

The Tigers struck for the game's first runs in the first inning.  After ONU loaded the bases with two outs, Faith Mikos singled and platted Haley Dobson, who reached on an error.  With the bases still juiced, Fricke drew a walk and Megan Mann, who reached on a walk, scored on the play.  The Tigers led 2-0.  The Tigers added a run in the third when Dobson hit a sacrifice fly and scored Margaret Landis.  The lead grew to 3-0.  After a scoreless third, the Tigers extended their lead in the fourth.  With one out, Matti Lanie was batted in after Kate Landis reached on an error.  Later in the inning, Mikos picked up her second RBI on sacrifice fly and the Tigers tallied their third run of the inning when Olivia Flinn walked with the bases loaded and Mann scored.  The Tigers led 6-0. 

 

The Eagles scored their lone runs in the fifth on a pair of run-scoring singles making the score, 6-2. The Tigers struck for five runs in the sixth inning.  With runners at the corners, Fricke doubled down the left field line and drove in Kate Landis.  Then, Flinn singled home Mikos on a run-scoring single.  The Tigers led, 8-2. 

 

The Tigers struck for three more runs in the inning and defeated Judson, in six innings, 11-2.    

 

Game Two: ONU 3, Judson 1

Head coach Hannah Gardner sent Olivia Flinn to start game two of today's double-dip. Flinn was very strong in her outing as she went the distance and only surrendered one run on two hits and struck out two batters.  Flinn improved to 7-5 on the season.   

 

The Tigers carried their momentum from game one into game two.  In the first inning with two outs, Dobson smacked a solo homer over the left field wall to make the score, 1-0. The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth on a solo home run by Mann.  The Tigers were clinging to a 2-0 lead after four innings. 

 

The two teams then continued to play to a pitcher's duel as only two more combined runs came across to score in the duration of the games.  Zoe Oshiro, Dobson, and Flinn all tallied multi-hit games as the Tigers won game two, 3-1, to complete the sweep of the Eagles. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers conclude their regular season as they continue the suspended game from earlier in the season against Roosevelt on Thursday, April 28th at 3 p.m. The Tigers and Lakers will then play a single, non-conference game right after that game finishes.  The games will be played at Tiger Field.
