THE NO. 13 TIGERS BLOW PAST THE TROLLS ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The No. 13 Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball team traveled north to DeVos Gymnasium to play the Trolls of Trinity Christian College on Saturday afternoon. 

 

The Tigers started the game scoring the first five points.  Landon Pflederer and Alex Gross combined for those five points.  The Tigers led by as much as five early on at 14-9 but the Trolls made the score 16-15 with 15 minutes left in the first half.  Tyler Schmidt then marked a pair of field goals and made the score 20-15.  At 24-21, Schmidt marked another layup and Caleb Swearingen converted an and-one opportunity which grew the Tiger lead to 29-21.  Swearingen then dropped in another basket and extended the Tigers lead to 31-21. 

 

Halfway through the first half, the Tigers continued to pour it on and lead by as much as 17 at 41-24.  Gross scored six points during that stretch.  At 41-29, The Tigers saw offensive production from Gross, Schmidt, and Barik Olden during a 10-0 run making the score, 51-29. The Tigers took a, commanding, 53-31 lead going into the half.  Gross led the Tigers with 20 points and six boards, while Schmidt already posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.

Schmidt, Pflederer, and Griffin Andricks scored the first six points for the Tigers in the second half.  The Tigers led 61-37.  The Tigers continued to pace the second half and led 77-47 with 12 minutes left in the game.  Olden marked eight points during that stretch of play.  With six minutes left, Andricks and Olden made field goals and made the score, 90-58. 

 

Caleb Corro scored seven points in the last five minutes of the game and Logan McCann came off the bench for some good minutes down the stretch as the Tigers blew past the Trolls, 101-75.
