NO. 19 ONU EARN SPLIT ON FINAL DAY OF THE TIG SPRING GAMES

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 19 Olivet Nazarene University softball team concluded play at the TIG Spring Games on Friday with a pair of rematches from earlier in the week.  The Tigers went up against the Bulldogs of Concordia (Neb.) and the Raiders of Northwestern College.

Game One: CUNE 12, No. 19 ONU 4 F/6

The Bulldogs scored the game's first run on an RBI single in the first inning giving them a 1-0 advantage.  After a scoreless second inning, the Tigers tied the game in the third.  Margaret Landis doubled to lead off the inning.  Then, with one out, Haley Dobson doubled home Margaret Landis and knotted the game at one apiece.  The Bulldogs retook the lead in the bottom of the inning on a bases-clearing double and an RBI triple making the score, 5-1.  Concordia then kept the pressure on ONU pitching and struck for another five runs in the bottom of the fourth, putting the game out of reach at 10-1.

The Tigers then found some life offensively in the top of the fifth.  With the bases loaded, Megan Mann hit a sacrifice fly into right field and platted Matti Lanie.  Then Alli Timm delivered a two-run double into left field and drove in Zoe Oshiro and Dobson.  The Tigers cut the Bulldog lead to 10-4.

Concordia sealed the game in the bottom of the sixth as they scored a pair of runs and defeated the Tigers in six innings, 12-4.  Olivia Flinn started the game but only worked 2.2 innings while Emily Blucker finished the final 2.2 innings.

Game Two: No. 19 ONU 6, RV Northwestern 5

Kori Fricke went in the second and final game of the day as she worked all seven innings and gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out two. Fricke only surrendered one run in the first five innings worked.

The Tigers cracked the scoring column in the first inning of play.  With the bases loaded, Timm reached on a fielder's choice as Oshiro scored on the play.  The Tigers led 1-0.  The Raiders, immediately, tied the score in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double.  The two sides were tied at one after one inning.

After a scoreless second inning, the Tigers retook the lead in the third.  With two outs and the bases loaded, Fricke helped her own cause by clearing the bases on a single making the score, 4-1.  The game was 4-1 until the Tigers stretched their lead in sixth inning.  After Vannah Vaughan and Lanie drew walks, Oshiro continued her impressive start to the season with an RBI single to center and scored Vaughan.  With one out, Dobson gave the Tigers a 6-1 lead as she platted Lanie on a RBI single.  The Raiders added a pair of runs in the sixth on an RBI groundout and single making the score, 6-3.

The Raiders threatened a comeback in the seventh inning on an RBI double and sac fly but the Tigers held on to win the game, 6-5.

The Tigers finished 8-6 in Arizona.
