FLINN'S ONE-HIT SHUTOUT PUSHES TIGERS PAST THE LYNX IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP ON FRIDAY

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team welcomes the Lynx of Lincoln College to Tiger Field on Friday afternoon.  The Tigers used two round-trippers to win game one, 3-2, while the Tigers shutout the Lynx, 5-0, in the nightcap.

Game One: ONU 3, LC 2

The Tigers sent Kori Fricke to the circle in the opening game of the today's twin bill.  Fricke went the distance and surrendered two runs, on five hits, and struck out three.  Both of the runs that the Tiger right-hander gave up were unearned and Fricke moved to 10-4 on the season.

The Tigers and Lynx found themselves in a pitcher's duel throughout as only five runs and 12 hits were pushed across in game one.  The Tigers opened their scoring in the bottom of the second as Megan Mann slugged a solo homer to make the score, 1-0.  The score remained 1-0 until Haley Dobson slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to make the score, 3-0. The Lynx marked their runs in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly and on a fielder's choice.

Fricke had a pair of runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh but induced a pop out to end the game as the Tigers edged the Lynx, 3-2, in game one.

Game Two: ONU 5, LC 0

Head Coach Hannah Gardner sent out Olivia Flinn to start the second game of today's twin bill.  The Tiger sophomore threw a one-hit shutout and struck out six batters.  Flinn moved to 5-5 on the season.

The Tigers wasted no time on breaking the scoring column in game two as they struck for runs in the bottom of the first inning.  After Matti Lanie doubled to lead off the inning, Dobson drove her in with an RBI single.  With two outs, Dobson crossed home plate when Faith Mikos reached on an error.  Fricke then cashed in two more runs on a two-run triple.  The Tigers pulled ahead, 4-0.  ONU marked another run in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Dobson.  The Tigers led, 5-0.

Neither team could muster anymore offense in the game as the Tigers took game two and swept the doubleheader, 5-0.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers have a quick turnaround as they host the Fighting Saints of the University of St. Francis for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 23rd for Senior Day.  The twin bill starts at noon at Tiger Field.
