ONU COMES OUT ON TOP IN CLOSE MATCH AGAINST GSU

CROWN POINT, IN. - In a high-stakes battle on the road, Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer secured a hard-fought victory against Governors State University with a final score of 2-1 on Tuesday at Crown Point Sportsplex.

 

First Half: ONU Strikes First

The opening half of the game was characterized by a relentless offensive push from ONU. The breakthrough moment came in the 30th minute when senior midfielder Holden Devore, displaying exceptional skill and composure, found the back of the net to put the Tigers ahead. The goal was beautifully set up by senior midfielder Elias Nonnenmann, who provided an impeccable assist. 

 

Second Half: ONU Maintains Dominance

The second half witnessed ONU's relentless pursuit of victory. Just a minute after the restart, in the 46th minute, Nonnenmann made his mark once again, this time as the scorer. His clinical finish was made possible by a precise assist from freshman defender Maxime Schonenberger. This combination of Nonnenmann and Schonenberger proved to be a formidable force that GSU struggled to contain. 

 

As the match entered its final stages, the Jaguars showed their resilience and mounted a late surge. In the 82nd minute, they managed to break through ONU's defense and found the back of the net for their only goal of the match. This late goal injected a dose of suspense into the game, as GSU pushed forward in search of an equalizer. However, ONU's defense held firm, maintaining their composure under pressure to secure the 2-1 victory.

 

Looking Ahead

ONU is buzzing with excitement after their victory over GSU. The team is eager to carry this momentum into their next match, fueled by their determination and the excitement to play at Snowbarger Athletic Complex in front of the home crowd. The Tigers are set to face off against the Fighting Saints of the University of St. Francis on Sept. 30th. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
