ONU FALLS SHORT AGAINST INDIANA WESELEYAN

BOURBONNAIS, IL. - In a hard-fought battle on Wednesday, Olivet Nazarene University's men's soccer team faced a tough challenge from Indiana Wesleyan University at Snowbarger Athletic Complex. Despite putting up a valiant effort, ONU found themselves on the wrong side of a 0-2 scoreline at the final whistle.

First Half: Defensive Duel Sets the Tone

The first half of the game witnessed a fierce exchange of possession and skill from both sides. ONU's defense held strong, thwarting numerous attempts by IWU to break through. Goalkeeper, junior Leonard Bewig, capitalized on several crucical saves to keep the match level. ONU maintained composure, passing the ball efficiently and creating several promising opportunities in the attacking third. However, neither team was able to capitalize on their chances, and the half ended in a goalless stalemate.

Second Half: IWU Seizes Control

The second half of the game proved to be the turning point. In the 54th minute, Indiana Wesleyan University's junior defender, Tim Slusarczyk, expertly found the back of the net with precision, all thanks to a well-placed assist from sophomore midfielder Cole Little, granting IWU a 1-0 lead.

Despite conceding a goal, ONU continued to press forward, determined to even the score. However, in the 66th minute, IWU extended their lead when sophomore forward Brandon Nyagurungo scored, once again assisted by Little. This two-goal deficit proved too challenging for ONU to overcome, and the match concluded with a final score of 0-2 in favor of the Wildcats.

Looking Forward

Despite this setback, ONU remains determined. The Tigers are eager to bounce back in their next match on the road against Calumet College of St. Joseph on Sept 16th. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. CST at East Chicago Central High School.
