ONU FINISHES TOURNEY WITH A DRAW AGAINST NO. 6 OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – A match between two teams ranked in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top-25 poll ended in a draw as the No. 22 Olivet Nazarene University women's soccer team tied the No. 6 Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles 1-1 at the John Brown Tournament Saturday morning.

The Tigers struck early in the match. In the 10th minute, Annabel Murley slung a touch pass over to Abbey Cash who buried the shot into the back of the net to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead against one of the nation's top teams.

The 2022 NAIA All-American had another chance in the 30th minute but was stymied on a save by the Eagle goalkeeper. The Tiger defense didn't give an inch in the first half, not allowing a single shot on goal as they cruised into halftime with a one-goal lead.

The ONU defense continued to thwart the Oklahoma Wesleyan attacks up until the 72nd minute when OKWU's Linn Joelsson slipped one behind Tessa Kowalski to level the score. Neither team was able to put a shot on net for the remainder of the match as the two ranked powerhouses had to settle for a draw.

Cash led the offense with all three of her shots being on goal and tabbing the Tigers' lone tally. Kelsey Bowling and Teisha Moe each notched a shot on goal while Kowalski picked up a save in 23 minutes in goal.

The No. 22 Tigers will continue to square off against ranked competition when they host the No. 16 Grace Lancers at Snowbarger Athletic Complex on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. CST.
