ONU SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER AT CARDINAL STRITCH

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team hit the road as they played the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University on Wednesday afternoon.  The Tigers shutout the Wolves in game one, 8-0, while squeaking out a 3-2 victory in game two.

Game One: ONU 8, CSU 0 F/5

The Tigers sent Kori Fricke to the circle for game one. The Tiger right-hander worked the full five innings and surrendered four hits and struck out three.  Fricke earned her 10th win of the season.

The Tigers jumped on Wolves' pitching, scrapping across a couple of runs in the first inning.  One of the runs came off the bat of Megan Mann, who tripled home Haley Dobson.  The Tigers got their second run of the inning when Kori Fricke singled home Mann.  ONU took an early, 2-0 lead.

After a quiet second and third inning, the Tigers added to their lead in the fourth.  Matti Lanie platted the first run when she scored on an error.  Later in the inning, Mann kept up her strong day at the plate as she drove in a pair with a two-run single.  Fricke then helped her own cause and smacked her sixth home run of the season.  The Tigers led, 7-0.

Lanie then dropped in an RBI single in the fifth to make the score, 8-0.  Fricke and the Tigers shutdown the Wolves in the bottom of the inning as ONU snapped a three-game skid and won game one, 8-0.   All eight of the Tiger runs came with two outs in the inning.

Game Two: ONU 3, CSU 2

Head Coach Hannah Gardner sent out Olivia Flinn to start game two of the doubleheader.  Flinn worked four innings and surrendered a run on four hits and struck out two.  Flinn earned her fifth win of the season.  Emily Blucker worked the final three innings and earned her fourth save of the season.

The Tigers jumped out in front 2-0 after Margaret Landis walked with the bases loaded and platted Fricke and Lanie drove-in Kate Landis on a sacrifice fly.  The Wolves cracked the scoring column in the third on an RBI single.  The score was 2-1 until Cardinal Stritch platted the tying run in the fifth on another RBI single.  The score stayed at two all until the Tigers scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh when Faith Mikos broke through with an RBI double.

Blucker held the Wolves scoreless in the seventh as the Tigers won the second game in a pitcher's duel, 3-2.
