NO. 9 TIGERS SWEEP DAY TWO OF PLAY AT THE TIG SPRING GAMES

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 9 Olivet Nazarene University softball team concluded day two of the TIG Spring Games with a pair of victories.  The Tigers defeated the RV University of Jamestown Jimmies, 4-0, before taking down the Saints of Presentation College, 12-4 in game two. 

 

Game One: No. 9 ONU 4, RV Jamestown 0

Kori Fricke got the ball in the first game of the day and did not disappoint.  The Tiger junior pitched the distance, surrendering no runs, on five hits, and fanned four batters.  Fricke did not give up a walk and earned her first victory of the season. 

 

The two teams found themselves in a pitcher's duel throughout the game but the Tigers finally broke through in the sixth inning on a home run by Megan Mann.  The Tigers led 1-0.  The Tigers broke the game open in the seventh inning.  With one out, Vannah Vaughan singled and Matti Lanie walked to bring up Haley Dobson.  The Tiger senior ripped a double to left field and scored Vaughan and Lanie.  Margaret Landis then deposited a double into left field and platted Dobson. The Tigers led 4-0. 

 

Dobson hit two doubles and drove in a pair of RBIs in the 4-0 win over the Jimmies. 

 

Game Two: No. 9 ONU 12 Presentation 4 F/5

The Tigers were riding high into the second game against Presentation after their big shutout over RV Jamestown.  Coach Hannah Gardner gave the ball to Emily Blucker for the first three innings while Olivia Flinn worked the final two innings. 

 

The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first.  With two runners on, Mann reached on an error by the right fielder and platted a pair of runs.  Mann would eventually score on a pair of back-to-back passed balls.  After Alli Timm walked and advanced to second on a passed ball, Fricke hit an RBI single to make the score, 4-0.  Then, Kailyn Ngo hit a sacrifice fly to left field and drove in Kate Landis.  With two outs, Dobson roped her third double of the day and knocked in Fricke and Lanie.  The Tigers pulled ahead 7-0 at the end of the first inning. 

 

The Tigers added another run in the second when Mann scored on a sacrifice fly by Fricke. The Saints came back and scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to make the score, 8-2.  ONU struck again for three runs in the bottom of the third inning and grew its lead to 11-2. 

 

Presentation added two in the top of the fourth on a two-run double and the Tigers added a run in the bottom of the fourth as the Tigers won the game in five innings, 12-4. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The No. 9 Tigers continue play that the TIG Spring Games on Tuesday, March 8th as they play Dickinson State at 11 a.m. CST, Northwestern College at 1:15 p.m. CST and conclude the day with a game against Concordia (Neb.).  First pitch for the final game is set for 5:45 p.m. CST.
