LAKERS OUTLAST THE TIGERS IN BOTH GAMES OF A FRIDAY DOUBLEHEADER

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball team (14-14, 4-3 CCAC) dropped both games of a Friday doubleheader against Roosevelt University (16-7, 5-2 CCAC). Kai Hudson was involved in all three scores on the day crossing Homeplate twice in game one and batting in the Tigers' sole run in game two. Ethan Underwood and Tommy Castro pitched gems as Underwood struck out 10 and allowed only a run in six innings of work in game one while Castro went eight innings in game two giving up only one run and striking out five.

GAME 1: Roosevelt 7, Olivet Nazarene 2

ONU could not hold onto an early lead in the first ballgame of the afternoon. Taylor Steig recorded his fifth RBI in his last three games as his grounded ball to the shortstop scored Kai Hudson in the first inning. The lead was short-lived as the Lakers tied up the score in the bottom half of the inning. Geon Yoon would restore the Olivet advantage in the fourth inning with an RBI single.

Ethan Underwood would shut down the RU lineup following the first inning. The senior right-handed pitcher did not allow more than two baserunners between the second and sixth innings. He pitched a clean 1-2-3 fourth inning and got out of a jam in the sixth after Roosevelt hit a triple with two outs.

The Lakers broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth inning scoring five unanswered runs. Roosevelt would close out the nine-inning game with a clean bottom of the ninth.

GAME 2: Roosevelt 2, Olivet Nazarene 1

Roosevelt would outlast the Tigers in the final game of the day scoring the game-winning run in the top of the 14th inning. The Lakers manufactured the run by moving a runner to third from a sacrifice bunt and then put the ball into play to score the deciding run.

RU would score the first run of the game in the third inning. It took an RBI single from Kai Hudson in the bottom of the sixth inning to even the score. Hudson's RBI brought his season total to 17 while Robert Jackman's run scored made it his 10th on the year.

Tommy Castro pitch his best game of the season to date setting single-game bests in innings pitched (8.0), earned runs (1), hits (1), and earned runs (0). He faced 29 batters walking only two and striking out five. The senior right-handed starter pitched a clean eight inning before Jordan Rhoden entered in relief.

The 14-inning game is the longest game of the season for the Tigers and their second game of the season that went into extra innings.

GAME 3: Olivet Nazarene 2, Roosevelt 2 (Postponed Sunday, March 26 in the bottom of the fourth inning.)

Due to inclement weather, the final game of the series was postponed with the remaining inning to be played out at a later date.
