UNDERWOOD NO-HITS THE TROJANS TO PROPELL THE TIGERS TO A SERIES WIN

BOURBONNAIS, Ill.Ethan Underwood's seven-inning no-hitter propelled the Tigers to a three-game sweep over the Titans of Trinity International. The Tigers shut out and no-hit TIU 11-0 in the first game followed by 0-0 and 0-0 results in the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The senior right-handed starter went the full seven innings striking out a season-high 10 batters in the first no-hitter of his career.


GAME 1: Olivet Nazarene 11, Trinity International 0

Underwood worked through three clean innings on his way to a no-hitter. He allowed just one walk and three total base runners off of two fielding errors. The Georgia native faced a total of 24 batters allowing no runs to drop his conference earned run average down to 3.38. Underwood improves to 5-1 overall on the season.

The ONU bats backed up the pitching with 11 runs. Seven different Tigers finished the game with multiple hits. Evan Pogioli led the way knocking in three RBIs while Taylor Steig and Noah Couch provide two RBIs each. Jack Dupuis drew a game-high three walks and Donovan Yelle scored a game-high three runs.

 

GAME 2: Trinity International 6, Olivet Nazarene 5

Trinity International built a 6-3 in the fifth inning scoring two runs to break a 3-3 deadlock score. Taylor Steig and Donovan Yelle cut the lead to one run in the bottom half of the inning scoring batting in two runs. ONU had the tying run in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings but the Titans held on for their sole win of the series.

Jack Dupuis got on base four times hitting 2-2 from the plate and drawing two runs. The leadoff man crossed home a team-high two times. Yelle recorded a team-high three hits including two RBIs. Mason Beatty tacked on two RBIs and a double.

Tommy Castro took the loss in five innings of work recording eight strikeouts.

 

GAME 3: Olivet Nazarene 17, Trinity International 1

The Tigers claimed the series-deciding game scoring 17 runs. Robert Jackman and Kai Hudson each tied for a game-high three RBIs. Hudson hit his fifth home run in his first at-bat of the ball game. Taylor Steig's long ball in the third inning sparked an eight-run inning and the Tigers did not look back.

10 different Olivet batters recorded an RBI and 10 different base runners scored a run. The Olivet defense held the Trojans to just five hits and one run. Thomas Plizga pitched for his first win of the season. He went four innings, allowed the opposition's only run, and struck out eight. Matthew Cousino and Matthew Derkacy came into the game in relief for three combined shutout innings.
