TIGERS BATTLE IN SERIES AGAINST ROOSEVELT LAKERS

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University baseball team continued its offensive prowess but only pieced together one win as they continued their conference slate with a four-game set against the Roosevelt Lakers this weekend.

The Tigers pounded out 39 hits in the series but only mustered one win on the weekend, which came in Friday's nightcap at Watson Field. After getting left off the scoreboard in a 3-0 setback in the opener, ONU jumped Roosevelt for 12 runs to end the game early in eight innings.

The Lakers (13-10, 4-4 CCAC) staked themselves a 2-0 lead early before the Tigers roped in four runs in the third inning to take the lead. With the bases loaded, Kai Hudson got ONU on the board and tied the game with a two-RBI double. Donovan Yelle then scampered home on a wild pitch before Taylor Steig plated Hudson on an RBI groundout.

The Purple & Yellow Gold scored five more runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth, capped by a Steig RBI double that served as a de facto walk-off to end the game via mercy rule. Hudson ended the game going 4-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs and three runs scored. Jordan Rhoden was credited with the win as the ONU starter, going six innings with just one earned run.

The hot offense carried over into Monday's series, but the Tigers couldn't plate the runs late in coming up empty-handed in the doubleheader. After falling behind 7-3 through two innings, Joseph Jimenez sparked a five-run inning with an RBI single, which was capped off by an RBI walk by Jack Dupuis that gave ONU the lead. Dupuis then plated an insurance run in the fifth inning, but the Lakers put up a crooked six-run sixth inning to steal the victory.

The series finale featured multiple runs and required extra innings. With the game tied 7-7 after four innings, RU claimed the lead with a run in the sixth inning. Dupuis responded by plating another RBI to knot the score and force extras, but the Lakers got their run across in the 10th inning to claim victory via walk-off.

The Tigers will close out the season series against St. Ambrose Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. CST. The doubleheaders location is still to be determined.
